EXPLORER PROFILE |
Firstly I'm honoured to be asked by Muntanji to join their family as an Ambassador. My name is Sarah Bellis and I'm actually quite new to the adventure game only catching the bug 6 years or so ago! I moved to the Scottish Highlands with my awesome adventure husband Jimmy and equally as awesome adventurous teens, Josh and Sophie.
Our journey to the Highlands in 2014 took us along the A9, driving through we were in awe of these spectacular mountains and knew then that adventure awaited us. Within our first week in the new place and still living out of boxes we had summited our first local mountain, Ben Rinne's a Corbett at 841 metres. Standing at the highest point in Moray feeling amazed and inspired (a million miles away from our previous life in Kent) we knew we needed to see and experience more of this. Our week days were busy as normal working life took over, however, we excitingly planned our weekends and set about bagging the 282 Munros and the little hills in-between. Our weekends soon turned into adventure ones all year round and we're currently on our 65th munro. Last year was busy and saw us hiking and running through the Scottish mountains.
I've never really been much of a runner but im always up for trying something new so when Jimmy suggested we run some of the munros I was up for the challenge. With the change in my lifestyle and getting out more I've felt stronger and had confidence in myself that I could achieve more. I started trail running and have since completed a series of events throughout the UK, including Hell Up North and Skyline Scotland. In 2016 I also ran the Berlin Big 25k, an amazing experience finishing on the blue track inside the Olympic Stadium! This then led to us taking part in running The Three Mealls trail race in Kinlochleven .
Next week I'll be taking part in the Glentress trail half marathon and the Mighty Deerstalker night race in Pitlochry this March. I'm hoping all this training will place me in good stead for my first ever Marathon this May.
We also have 2 other special members in our family who are always up for adventure! Meet Miller and Piper, our very own adventure dogs, they love nothing more than joining us in the mountains.
Other adventures planned this year include bothy stays and wild camp outs. We plan to do the Braeriach Traverse sleeping under the stars and catching the sunset/sunrise
There's also Aonach Eagach and The Ring of Steall, these mountains have previously defeated us but this year we'll be ready for them, waiting for a good weather window to get out and conquer. I have been truly Drawn in by the beauty of the hills and mountains in Scotland I knew this is what my life needed. Gone were the weekends of planning boozy nights out and then spending the next day hungover! It soon became clear that spending as much time in the mountains and nature is what I needed. My passion for the outdoors has increased my happiness, it's been a lifestyle change for the best.
